Cape Town Fishing - Game
Fishing in Cape Town - Deep Sea Fishing |
If sport fishing is your game, and even if it’s
not, this is something you have to try once.
Just once, because after that we know you will
be “hooked”.
Cape
Town has some of the richest Tuna fishing
grounds in the World. It is not unusual to catch
Yellow fin Tuna of 80 kgs+ and Long fin of 20
kgs+. So spoil yourself. Get some mates together
and make a day of it. Even if you are alone, you
can join in another fishing group as they head
out for the day.
Whilst on our
Cape
waters you will probably see the numerous
species of Albatross, Killer Whales (Orca) and
Dusky Dolphins that are frequently near the
boats. The Tuna season runs from Sep to June,
with the best times being at the beginning and
end of the season. Tuna fishing takes a full
day, 30 miles out to sea, so if you do suffer
from seasickness then please inform us so we can
provide you with the necessary precautions
before coming aboard.
Other species that are targeted off the
peninsula coastline are: Elf (Shad/Bluefish) and
Mako Sharks. Daiwa stand up rods with both Penn
International and Shimano reels are supplied for
conventional fishing. The Tuna however deserves
a lot more respect and nothing less than a
fourteen weight combined with a really good reel
that holds at least 600m of backing will do.
Seasons vary from one year to the next, but as a
rule all the above species are caught in summer.
Cape
Snoek
however peak during the cold winter
months. Orvis saltwater rigs (with Abel reels)
are supplied for fly-fishing.
Cray fishing (rock lobster) is also very popular
especially with the high price of lobster in
restaurants. So if you feel like catching
lobster and eating them like peanuts, then this
is the way to go. Most fishing trips include
crayfish for lunch and a trip to seal island.
There are two boats that are in operation,
namely "Decadence" - a 30' Cobra Cat from the
renowned Mallards Marine in
Durban
. She has plenty of space with a closed
off cabin, fly bridge and flushing toilets. She
provides a great platform to tackle larger
offshore species with fly or conventional
tackle! The other boat is "Indulgence" - a 25"
Magnum Catamaran. This vessel is very stable and
offers both the fly and conventional angler an
extremely comfortable platform from which to
fish. The boat also offers the comforts of on
board toilet facilities and comfortable, couched
seating for 5 people.
Rates for a day’s game fishing start go for
between R5750 to R7750 per boat for a day out at
sea including meals, drinks, tackle and of
course fishing 'til your hearts content.
