Three hours drive north-east of Cape
Town is the arid region of the Klein Karoo. For most of
the year, this dry region is a vast area of dry hot
stony ground with only tumbleweed and mirages to treat
the eye.
However, for a brief period in August/September, the
short winter rainfall miraculously transforms the land
into a huge blanket of flowers of a thousand colours
that stretches as far as the eye can see.
It is a brief Eden; a paradise found that cannot be
missed!
As this is a rather long drive (which is possible) in
one day, we recommend you stay overnight in a quaint bed
and breakfast in the Tulbagh region, the heartland of
the flower landscape.
