have over 280 displays as well as an
auditorium, camera obscura, computer
rooms, laboratories, and exhibition
hall. Bring the whole family - we
provide entertainment for kids of all
ages !
Collaboration with the Department of
Science and Technology’s Youth into
Science Strategy has seen the continued
implementation of National Science Week
and other useful initiatives ranging
from highlighting the important work
being done by our South African
scientists in Antarctica to an
internship programme for young science
graduates at the Sciencentre.
Many young learners from previously
disadvantaged communities who show
potential for Maths, Science and
Technology have been given life-changing
opportunities through the Sciencentre’s
collaborations with international
programmes. Recently, 10 Western Cape
learners traveled to London not only to
attend the famous Royal Institution
Annual Christmas Lectures but also to
experience famous scientific and other
landmarks in the United Kingdom.
The Sciencentre has been awarded the
accolade as the Host Institution for the
Sixth Science Centre World Congress
taking place from 5 to 8 September 2011
on behalf of Africa.
